There are problems with the account at the new forums. Brother Jeff and I are working on it. Watch this thread for updates.

I'm "unsticking" this thread.

It looks like we will be on this forum for a few days. That this project will go on is not the question. We have the data. We just need a place to put it. The question is in what shape or form we will continue.

For example, should we use free forums like this one or should we pay someone to host us? Traffic to this forum was successful beyond my wildest expectations. Then there was a crash where we lost an entire month's worth of work and two-thirds of the registered membership. Traffic dropped sharply. A week later freeforums told me that the problem is fixed; it can never happen again.

However, we couldn't wait a week for answers. So we thought. We got ourselves a domain name. We set up on hostgator with MyBB forums because hostgator had never failed us and MyBB has more options. Now hostgator has failed us, too. Is this a freak situation or have others had the same problem? What about godaddy?

If we pay someone how will we fund it? The goal is to undermine the POWER of fundamentalist religion. Is that a realistic goal? Actually, "realistic goals" is not an option. We want this planet to survive for future generations. Fundamentalist religion MUST GO.

QUESTION:

[align=center]HOW TO GET A FUNDY TO CHANGE HIS/HER MIND

Wow! What a hard time you're having! What's wrong with staying here? Seems ok.

I know what went wrong more or less. With freeforums it was a crash on their end. They say they fixed it and that it can't happen again. With the hostgator it was an overdrawn account of which we were unaware. I understand the data is recovered and can be set up again when I decide on a host. I will be doing some research before making that decision. For the time being we are on here.

It is possible that we will develop this site more. However, there is no backup on this site. When it crashes, the data is permanently lost.

Sorry I haven't posted much in the line of updates. Fact of the matter is, after twenty hours on the internet on Sunday trying to get a handle on this issue, I needed a break. By this morning I am beginning to think straight again. I will talk with local people to see what host company others use. I live near a university that is widely known for its computer science. Many of its graduates start up their own companies or businesses.

I will look for a company that has been in business about ten years and has a good track record. Ideally, it will be a local company where I can go talk with real live people if I am having problems.

How to fund the project is another issue I need to research. All of this will take time. Please be patient and keep watching this thread. This project will go on. Thank you!

Hey folks! I've got great news! Last night I was with friends and talked about my problem. Guess what. One of these people is a high school English teacher with his own publishing company. What host does he use? Freewebs.com. That's right. It's free. It doesn't cost a penny. It has the capacity for website, blog, and forums. I set up the bare-bones structure just now but won't have time until later today to develop it further.

Here's the title and slogan:

Foundation for Fighting Fundamentalist Religion
Where religion is challenged, undermined, and substituted

Within the next week or so we should be up and running again. I'll keep you posted. Watch this thread for updates.

It's all set up!

Not much to look at yet but there is a website, forums, and a blog.

I am no longer sure that the data from the suspended account will be recovered. I can't do it myself and it's been a while since I heard from the person who promised to do it. Also, I am having problems setting up a new account on MyBB. If the data is recovered at some point, I will probably post it here and on the website.

I notice that we are having a regular stream of "guests" through here. I suspect a lot of them are "regulars" who are just hanging around till things settle down. I appreciate your patience and loyalty so much. THANK YOU!

I spent most of my waking hours this past week exploring and struggling with free software systems on the internet to find the best solution for this project. I also talked with local people and online techie guys. I think the best option is to link these forums and the website. You will also find a link to the website on the homepage of these forums.

For those of you who have seen the FFFR Forums on the website--I deleted those forums because they weren't good enough for my purposes. I saved the two good posts that were on them and posted them on these forums. The FFFR Forums link that you can now see on the navbar of the website brings you back to these forums. This plan seems to be the best option open to me at this time.

I realize all of this must be rather confusing. Play around with it and explore. I think it will become clear eventually.

At the moment, some things are posted double--on here and on the website. The Index of Sources is one example. From now on my focus will be to streamline and organize the material I saved to my hard drive and elsewhere. Fortunately, I was able to save the most valuable part--the links index. With its help, I may also be able to recover some data from my own brain--the one inside my skull.

Thus, I think things are as settled as they will ever be. They say the only things that are certain are death and taxes.....

I hereby invite you to sign up on these forums and share your insights and ideas.

This is the end of May two years later and we're still here. I find freeforums to be a dependable server. Eventually, I found their tech support forums where I can go for help if I have questions. On Mon. June 1, 2009, freeforums will switch to a new format that is being used by all but a few clients. I guess I am one of those few. Since I've gotten used to working with them and like them, I'll definitely stick with them.

They expect all of my stuff to convert smoothly except the YouTubes. I'm copying some of the most important stuff--such as the science threads with all those YouTubes--to hard drive in case things do get lost.
