Affectionately known as Snakey, he has been posting regularly on
Reasonable Faith as an atheist since before I joined in July 2008. A central theme of his debates with Christians is the supremacy of love for God over parental love for their own children.
In
Heavenly Suffering he summarizes the conclusions at which he arrives via his debates with Christians. He was not raised in religion but he did lose a child to death. He is sure he would swap places with his child if his child were in hell, or that he would choose to go stay with his child in hell.
Snakey makes some interesting arguments and one is hard pressed to put them all down to grief; from the perspective of parental love and accountability they simply make sense.
