This section is "For questions and discussions about God and the existence or non-existence of God." The website godisimaginary.com addresses this question in such simple language, and it uses the Bible to address this question exactly the way fundamentalist Christianity teaches us to use the Bible. For this reason, I consider it appropriate to stick a thread about this website at the top of this thread. People can read the website and post their impressions here if they like. Remember to be respectful regardless of your position.

Find a definition for respectful behaviour and protocol here.

The full title is: God is Imaginary: Fifty Simple Proofs.

Proof #50 - Ask Jesus to appear uses Jesus' promise in the Gospel to answer prayer. There are several; all of them promise that prayer will be answered. Therefore, if we ask Jesus to appear he is obligated to do so. Since he does not appear, he must be imaginary.

The article also looks at the claim about "Happy are those who have not seen yet still believe." It says:

  • this statement creates the perfect cover for a scam
  • every other object in the universe...provides evidence of its existence
  • If there is no evidence for an object's existence, we call it imaginary
Quote:
But with Jesus, the lack of evidence is turned into evidence. Quite clever, but obviously a scam.
(emphasis added)

Conclusion: Jesus must be imaginary.

Here is another question to consider:

Quote:
Why is it that human beings can detect fairy tales with complete certainty when those fairy tales come from other faiths, but they cannot detect the fairy tales that underpin their own faith? Why do they believe their chosen fairy tale with unrelenting passion and reject the others as nonsense? For example:

  • Christians know that when the Egyptians built gigantic pyramids and mummified the bodies of their pharaohs, that it was a total waste of time -- otherwise Christians would build pyramids.
  • Christians know that when the Aztecs carved the heart out of a virgin and ate it, that it accomplished nothing -- otherwise Christians would kill virgins.
  • Christians know that when Muslims face Mecca to pray, that it is pointless -- otherwise Christians would face Mecca when they pray.
  • Christians know that when Jews keep meat and dairy products separate, that they are wasting their time -- otherwise the cheeseburger would not be an American obsession.

Yet, when Christians look at their own religion, they are for some reason blind. Why? And no, it has nothing to do with the fact that the Christian story is true. Your rational mind knows that with certainty, and so do four billion others.

FROM: Proof #7 - Understanding religious delusion

My guess is some Christians will tell me I am testing God. Of course I'm testing God. Condemning Christians test me with worse and I'm a mere mortal just like Christians. God, however, is said to be the almighty Creator and Ruler of the universe. If I, a mere mortal, can afford to be tested, surely God can handle anything atheists can throw at him.

If the faith of Christians cannot withstand the test of atheist questioning, perhaps the Christians need to re-evaluate the foundation of their faith. After all, the foundation on which one builds a life philosophy should not be shifting sand.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But holy lean on Jesus' name

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand...
All other ground is sinking sand.

Thus I was taught to believe. When I tested it.... See what Bertrand Russel said about the Character of Christ. I posted about it here on May 1 2008, and here you can see it in his own words. He does not even touch the problems I have with this "solid rock." It crumbled under my scrutiny. I wanted truth.
