In case you want to comment on the debate I'm participating in on exChristian.net re God's existence I will provide space here. I announced it in the announcements section but will recap for those who didn't see it.

Title: Evidence Of The Heart: the Existence Of God In The Human Experience

Participants: RubySera (me) and Antlerman

I will argue for the Christian side that God is more than an imaginary friend and Antlerman will argue from an atheist's perspective.

It has just been set up so you can watch from the very beginning if you feel so inclined. And if you so wish, you can join exC and comment in exC's own Peanut Gallery. Otherwise, you can respond here.

"I believe that there is legitimate reason for belief in God and that atheists need to be more aware of these reasons."

Well, RSM - so far I agree with you. But I was under the impression that you are an atheist.
Am I mistaken?

I still believe there is legitimate reason for humans to believe in God. As I have discussed on these forums, esp. on the thread about "Where God Comes From," on a personal level, I think there are other explanations for these feelings. For people who either don't know that argument, or don't accept it, I think there is legitimate reason to believe. That is my opinion at this point.

My understanding of 'legitimate' is a belief (in this case) which is in accordance with the laws of reasoning - logically inferable - logical.

Is this how you are using the word?

At this point in my life I think it is psychologically logical for people to believe in God. Read what I wrote in Where God Comes From, and the link for God and the Brain, and you will know as much on the topic as I do. Watch the debate and see how my thinking develops over the next little bit. I expect to learn something as I discuss this with Antlerman and hear other people's responses. This includes your responses. They really want a Christian in there. You could join the others in the Peanut Gallery. I'm not allowed to talk with people in the Peanut Gallery while the debate is going on but we can talk off the board such as here.

You may want to note that there is a major difference between these two statements:

1. There is a God.
2. It is logical for people to believe that there is a God.

I am NOT saying #1. I am saying #2.

Just so people know, we haven't given up the debate. We're just taking a break. Antlerman has been sick and had to work all the same because of an extremely busy week at work. There was no energy left for serious debate. It may be a few more days till he gets a chance to get back to this project. I expect a good post once he is able to pull his thoughts together.
